eggs are hatching! Early arrival but late nesting starts reported all over Collier County this year. In some cases egg-laying began as much as 2 weeks later than usual, but now landlords are reporting that chicks have arrived.
The first sighting of Purple Martins in Collier County for the 2013 nesting season – December 29, 2012! Two males were seen flying around the gourd racks of the Foxhaven colony in Foxfire.
Club members have shared photos of the Purple Martins at their colonies. Plenty of Martins have arrived in southwest Florida and more are coming. All photos taken the last week of February to the first week of March, 2012.
